Approximately 26% of adult Polish consumers smoke cigarettes – as recent local market research in Poland results show
Every fifth respondent claimed to smoke regularly and every twentieth to smoke occasionally – recent CBOS report indicates. According to the local market research results, the number of traditional cigarette smokers in Poland has remained at a similar level for years, but a downward trend can be seen. On the other hand, there are more electronic cigarettes smokers nowadays.
The popularity of smoking depends on gender – there are more smoking men than women. One out of three studied men admitted to being smokers. The majority of them claimed to smoke regularly. At the same time, only one out of five women smoke. Fortunately, the results clearly indicate that the total number of smokers in Poland is decreasing.
Smokers’ demographic characteristics
Smoking is usually a habit of people aged 45+, having primary, lower secondary or vocational education, being unemployed (45%), or unskilled workers (49%). Also, people with lower income per capita are more likely to smoke on a regular basis.
On the other hand, there are some socio-demographic groups that rarely include smokers. For instance, managers or specialists as well as, luckily, pupils and students. Interestingly, people strongly engaged in religious practices are hardly ever smokers.
